After five masterclasses spread across three months, with more than 40 women entrepreneurs participating, the first Sister Forward Academy drew to a close on Saturday, January 28.
The final masterclass in the series was presented by attorney-at-law Sade Jemmott-Forde, founder and principal consultant of Sade Jemmott Consulting. Jemmott-Forde presented on Legal Foundations for Your Small Business and reviewed the key legal protections and regulations that entrepreneurs need to know, particularly when starting out.
Several participants who had attended all five of the masterclasses were presented with certificates to commemorate their completion of the full suite of the Academy’s offerings.
President of SI Barbados, Amanda Lynch-Foster, spoke about the experience of hosting the masterclass series.
Lynch-Foster stated, “This has really been a very rewarding experience. In putting on these masterclasses week to week and sitting in and listening in, we’ve gotten real insight into just how much they were needed. Most of our participants were relatively new businesswomen and you could tell from the questions they asked, that they had practical ways that they intended to put it into action and that they valued the information they were getting”.
She added that the capacity building received would go some way to empowering women business owners and levelling the playing field in entrepreneurship.
